Second grade projects
Second grade classes are studying mapping. We're learning about the globe, continents, the compass rose, and map keys.
Our Beautiful WorldThis project poses the essential questions: How do people live in our beautiful world and where in the world are we from?
We all live in Malden, but many of our families come from other countries. We all speak English, but many of us speak other languages as well. In this project, students created a world map that chronicles each of their family’s continents and countries of origin, included photos, illustrations, and data about each country. Students were able to view their collective footprint on the map, as well as organize data on graphs. SUB-CATEGORY QUESTIONS

Polar Landscape
Students created a Polar Landscape using a collage technique. To get their pieces to collage together they first experimented with watercolor painting to create varied textures. Students used salt with the watercolor to make the mountains look snowy, and plastic wrap to create texture.

Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes!
Atama, Kata, Hiza, Ashi! Linden S.T.E.A.M. Academy Second Graders are corresponding with Second Grade penpals from .........Elementary School in ......., Japan. They have created postcards with original illustrations and are sharing information with their friends from across the globe. As a gesture of musical friendship, students learned to sing "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" in Japanese to further extend communication to the realm of music! First they sang the well known children's song to their Japanese penpals in English, and then in Japanese. |
