innovation schools
Linden STEAM Academy is one of 44 approved “Innovation Schools” across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The state’s Innovation Schools initiative is a signature feature of Governor Duval Patrick’s nation-leading education reform agenda, and aims to provide every district with the tools to deliver creative strategies that improve learning outcomes for all students and reduce achievement gaps. Innovation Schools receive grant money awarded to the state by the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation and the federal Race to the Top Initiative.
Although still a public school, Linden STEAM Academy’s innovation status allows it to operate with greater autonomy and flexibility with regard to curriculum, staffing, budget, schedule/calendar, professional development, and district policies. With STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) as its focus, and project-based teaching and learning as its methodology, Linden seeks to improve student achievement and serve as a model for schools throughout the state.
